Your health and safety is our top priority. At these meetings some applicants are accepted, some are identified as “continuing consideration” and some are rejected. Applicants may be “continuing consideration” because the Executive Committee member representing them was not able to make a particular meeting, or because the committee wanted to see additional applications before making a final decision. Those applicants may be discussed at a subsequent meeting or may continue to be considered until the final EXCOM meetings in March. Applicants who are identified as “continuing consideration” will be notified at the time they are put into that status and then again monthly to let them know they are still being considered. We will keep you informed of your status and contact you as soon as there is an action on your application. All final decisions are sent by email, so be sure to manage your email account carefully. Applicants wishing to appeal their decision may email the Office of Admissions to request a review.

Getting an email of acceptance, especially for something career or education-related, is one of the best feelings in the world. It signifies hard work paying off. For hundreds of prospective Mayo medical students, it happened Thursday — for about three hours. Over acceptance emails to Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine were mistakenly sent out Thursday morning, sending nervous applicants into a frenzy.
The emails were sent because of a glitch, and Mayo had to walk the whole thing back a few hours later. All affected applicants have been contacted by phone. For now, though, a couple hundred prospective students are back in the dark.

There are many pre-med myths and misconceptions that are perpetuated by the hivemind, a mob mentality that arises from internet hearsay and a fear of missing out FOMO, as the kids call it. They often play off our basest fears, instincts, or first impressions. They typically break things down into deceptive black-and-white dichotomies, which are easier for our brain to process and therefore more attractive as ideas.
Be careful – buying into these myths could have negative effects on your admissions chances.
